After finishing third and fourth the past two years, Chicago-based top 10 firm Baker Tilly now sits atop of Construction Executive magazine‘s 2026 ranking of the top accounting firms providing services for businesses in the construction industry.
Baker Tilly took the top spot over CLA (CliftonLarsonAllen) and last year’s No. 1 firm CBIZ, which finished second and third, respectively. Before last year, CLA had received top honors from Construction Executive in five of the publication’s previous six rankings.
“Construction trade associations and labor unions rely on Baker Tilly’s construction accountants to advise them on their support of the industry through strategic planning, workforce development and more,” the firm says on its website. “Our construction accountants are active participants in their field and the construction industry.”

Construction Executive developed its ranking by asking more than 700 U.S. construction accounting firms to complete a survey. The data collected included:
- 2025 revenues from the firm’s construction practice;
- Number of CPAs in the firm’s construction practice;
- Percentage of the firm’s total revenues derived from its construction practice;
- Number of states in which the firm is licensed to practice;
- Year in which the construction practice was established; and
- Number of AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction) clients served during fiscal year 2025.
The ranking was determined by an algorithm that weighted the above factors in descending order of importance.
Of the firms ranked, Baker Tilly has the most construction CPAs (410), construction partners (160), and the most AEC clients (6,814). Baker Tilly’s construction practice makes up 5.62% of the firm’s total revenue, according to Construction Executive. INSIDE Public Accounting shows Baker Tilly had revenue of $3.66 billion during its most recent fiscal year.
Baker Tilly’s 2025 acquisition of Moss Adams likely helped it secure the top spot in this year’s ranking. Moss Adams placed seventh in Construction Executive‘s 2025 list of the top construction accounting firms, with 264 construction CPAs, 110 construction partners, and 1,750 AEC construction clients.
