(April 14) HARTFORD — A former Middlefield woman convicted of preparing false tax returns while running a Connecticut-based tax preparation business was sentenced Tuesday to a year and six months in prison, officials said.
Diana Miller-Lloyd, 45, of Port Orange, Florida, was also ordered to serve a year of supervised release during a hearing in Hartford federal court, according to David X. Sullivan, U.S. attorney for the District of Connecticut.
The sentence was handed down a little more than six months after Miller-Lloyd, also known as “Diana Rabin” and “Diana Lloyd,” pleaded guilty to two counts of aiding and assisting in the preparation of false and fraudulent income tax returns.
Sullivan said Miller-Lloyd provided tax preparation services under the business name Lloyd Forensic & Accounting Services before establishing Lloyd Forenzique & Accounting Services Corporation in Windsor in 2017.
The business was subsequently moved to Branford in 2019 and later to Guilford in 2021, according to Sullivan. He said many of Miller-Lloyd’s clients had annual incomes that exceeded $500,000.

Miller-Lloyd routinely obtained substantial federal tax refunds for her clients by fabricating and improperly deducting charitable contributions and business expenses, including advertising, repairs, travel, meals, utilities, insurance and legal services, Sullivan said.
Sullivan said Miller-Lloyd attempted to obtain at least $1,062,293 in fraudulent refunds or tax reductions for the 2016 through 2021 tax years. He noted the IRS detected fraudulent activity on several filings before the refunds were paid, resulting in an actual loss of $472,913.
In addition to preparing fraudulent tax statements, Miller-Lloyd occasionally used the professional credentials of a certified public accountant to defend filed returns that were audited by the IRS, Sullivan said.
Sullivan said U.S. District Judge Sarala V. Nagala ordered Miller-Lloyd to pay the IRS $467,717 in restitution. He said Miller-Lloyd was released from custody on a $25,000 bond and is required to report to prison on July 13.
