Embedded tax software provider April said it has secured the necessary e-file licenses to enable Americans to electronically file in all 50 states, becoming the first new nationally licensed e-file provider in more than 15 years.
“While we announced our product’s national readiness months ago, we’ve officially secured approvals from state systems and are now successfully filing returns nationwide—marking a historic milestone in the tax software industry,” April said in a recent blog post. “The last time a company achieved national e-file coverage was when April’s vice president of tax, Christina Taylor, led the development of Credit Karma Tax, later acquired by Square and rebranded as Cash App Taxes.”
April’s embeddable, white-labeled tax filing experience integrates state and federal questions into a single, intelligent flow, reducing the number of questions users need to answer.
With almost 1,900 potential questions to answer, this year, April’s smart routing system showed taxpayers on average 36 screens to get from start to finish, including state and federal tax filings.
“Our breakthrough was made possible by our novel use of AI to translate tax analysis documents into software code, enabling April to accelerate development and reach this coverage milestone in just four years,” the company says. “This same technology ensures we can quickly adapt to constantly evolving tax laws, maintaining agility in an industry known for its complexity.”
