The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) National Committee on Diversity and Inclusion (NCDI) will host its second forum around diversity and inclusion as organizations across the globe continue to find ways to bolster diversity, equity and inclusivity.

“While the tone at the top is critical for establishing diversity and inclusion goals, employees at all levels must play their part to build diverse, equitable and inclusive firms and organizations,” said Barry Melancon, CPA, CGMA, president & CEO, AICPA, CEO, Association of International Certified Professional Accountants. “Employees who understand the business case for a diverse workplace and embrace inclusion in their roles have the ability to create positive change in their organizations.”

The free CPE-eligible forum will feature discussions around how establishing and implementing DEI is not one-size-fits-all and explains how organizations must determine the appropriate structure for their needs. Participants will also discuss key components of a strategic plan and provide actionable steps as to how to incorporate everyone into the efforts to improve diversity and inclusion.

The panel discussion will include leaders from within the profession who will offer their varying perspectives, including:

  • Barry Melancon, CPA, CGMA, president & CEO, AICPA, CEO, Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, representing AICPA & CIMA
  • Richard Caturano, CPA, CGMA, national leader of culture diversity and inclusion at RSM, AICPA past chairman, NCDI chair
  • Kimberly Ellison-Taylor, CPA, CGMA, CISA, CEO KET Solutions, LLC, past chair AICPA, NCDI Vice-Chair/Incoming Chair
  • Julie Wood, chief People Officer, and Chris Mitchell, chief diversity officer, at Crowe LLCs Mitchell
  • Richard E. Mastrocola, CPA, president and CEO, and Jamie Tong-Chow, CPA and managing director – audit, at Tonneson+Co

Attendees will be eligible for 1.5 hours of CPE credit.

The AICPA and AICPA Foundation have a long history of working to increase diversity and inclusion in the profession. These efforts include developing the Accounting Inclusion Maturity Model, which is a tool to help organizations assess and measure their diversity and inclusion efforts.

Establishing the George Willie Scholarship and Internship program offers ethnic minority students a scholarship and an internship during busy season with one of the AICPA’s Private Company Practice Section member firms. Holding the annual Accounting Scholars Leadership Workshop which offers ethnic minority accounting students leadership training, career exploration and education around the benefits of becoming credentialed.
