Marks Paneth Names New Partner
Marks Paneth LLP recently announced the promotion of Yasmine L. Misuraca, CPA, CFE to partner in the firm’s Advisory Services group. Misuraca has more than 20 years of public and private accounting experience, providing forensic accounting, consulting and expert witness services on matters such as the application of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards for business transactions and events and securities litigation. She has served at a “Big Four” accounting firm and with Fortune 500 companies, as well as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Brown Smith Wallace Adds State and Local Tax Principal 
Brown Smith Wallace recently added Bernard Ottenlips as a state and local tax services principal. Ottenlips has more than 30 years of experience in accounting and taxation, including serving as supervising auditor of corporate income tax for the Missouri Department of Revenue. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in accounting from Quincy University. Ottenlips is a Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation and the Associated Industries of Missouri and serves on the tax committee. 

CohnReznick Adds Three New Members to Its Executive Board
CohnReznick recently elected David Kessler, CPA, Mike Micholas, CPA and Alan Wolfson, CPA to serve as the newest members of the firm’s Executive Board. In addition to these elections, Risa Lavine, Principal and Chief of Staff, was re-elected to the Board. The Executive Board, including the Chief Executive Officer, is responsible for the firm’s business and growth strategy and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Management Committee. 

Kessler, National Director of the firm’s Commercial Real Estate Industry Practice, has more than 30 years of experience providing audit, tax and management advisory services to the real estate and financial services industries.

Micholas, Regional Managing Partner of CohnReznick’s Mid-Atlantic Region, has more than 30 years of auditing, accounting, tax, and consulting experience for not-for-profit organizations and construction contractors.

Wolfson, Office Managing Partner of the firm’s New York City office, has more than 30 years of diversified public accounting, tax and consulting experience, providing advisory services to clients.

Grant Thornton Names Partner-in-Charge of Albany Market
Grant Thornton LLP has named Michael Poveda, CPA, CFA as partner-in-charge of the Albany market. In this role, Poveda will focus on client service, growth and talent development in the Northeast. He has more than 20 years of public accounting experience, providing assurance and business advisory services to public and private companies. Poveda received his bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Albany, and currently serves on the accounting advisory board at the University at Albany.

Mueller Prost Partner Completes Tangible Property Regulations Certification  
Mueller Prost CPAs + Business Advisors recently announced that Teri Samples, Partner and Director of Real Estate & Construction Services, has successfully completed certification for Tangible Property Regulations through Wolters Kluwer’s CCH Tangible Property Regulations Certificate Program. Samples has extensive knowledge regarding federal agency energy incentives including tax deductions and credits and leads a team that includes Mueller Prost’s energy proposal partner as well as in-house engineers and tax experts.

The Ohio Society of CPAs Names New Executive Board for 2017; Honors Educator
The Ohio Society of CPAs recently named its 2017 Executive Board members. Sandra Richtermeyer, Ph.D., CPA was named the 2017-2018 chair of the Executive Board. John Venturella, CPA, J.D., was inducted as chair-elect. William Chorba III, CPA, CGMA, CFO, NineSigma Inc. in Cleveland, assumes the position of immediate past chair. Owen Wyss, CPA, financial controller, Thompson Concrete Ltd., Cleveland, will serve as vice chair, finance.

Other members of the Executive Board include:

OSCPA also honored Jan Eighme, Ph.D., M.Acc. with the Outstanding Ohio Accounting Educator award for her exceptional contributions to the accounting profession and her continued efforts to advance student learning. Eighme is a senior lecturer in the accounting department at Miami University.
