The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) awarded CPA firm DiSanto, Priest & Co., of Warwick, R.I., the 2014 Public Service Award for Firms for its commitment to the community. The annual award honors one firm that has demonstrated outstanding public service.

James Curry, CPA, chair of the awards committee, presented the award at the spring meeting of the Institute’s governing Council, which began today in Washington, D.C.

“The commitment to public service extends far beyond the leadership at DiSanto, Priest & Co.,” Curry said. “It is deeply embedded throughout the firm’s culture.”

DiSanto, Priest & Co. has contributed more than $238,000 and donated countless hours of service to a variety of charities. Jake’s Wheels, the Impossible Dream, the J. Arthur Trudeau Center, the Gabrielle Dinsmore Heart and Hope Fund, and the Artic Mission are just a handful of the many charitable organizations that have been greatly rewarded by the firm’s efforts.

To raise money to serve charities, the firm has hosted game nights, wings and chili cook-offs, dress down days and a jet pull for Multiple Sclerosis. To accomplish the jet pull, a team of 20 made donations and went to T.F. Green Airport’s tarmac to pull a 146,000 pound Fed Ex jet. In addition to the charities the firm directly works with, members of its professional staff regularly donate time and serve on boards of charitable organizations throughout the state of Rhode Island.
