The agency says marketing fraudsters are misrepresenting and exaggerating who can qualify for the employee retention credit.

Fraudsters will call the user under the guise of reversing the unauthorized transaction. The scammer then asks for the victim’s username and password to verify their identity and transfers money out of their account.

Be aware of scammers using fake charities to commit fraud on well-intentioned donors.

So far in 2022, the IRS has identified and reported thousands of fraudulent domains tied to multiple MMS/SMS/text scams (known as smishing) targeting taxpayers.
