NEW HAVEN — The former owner of a Connecticut tax preparation business has been arrested for filing a series of fraudulent income tax returns with the IRS, federal prosecutors said.

Yuridia Trujillo, 43, of Meriden, was charged with 19 counts of aiding and assisting in the preparation and presentation of a false income tax return, according to U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut David Sullivan.

Sullivan said Trujillo is accused of filing fraudulent returns while running his business, Yuri’s LLC. He said Trujillo prepared at least 4,335 tax returns for clients between the 2017 and 2024 tax years.

Many of those returns included fake deductions, fictitious losses on stocks and cryptocurrency that clients never owned, and fabricated rental properties with little to no rental income, but significant deductible expenses, Sullivan said.

Sullivan said Trujillo also filed fraudulent forms with the IRS that allowed her to divert a portion of her client’s refunds to her own bank account and the bank account of an associate.

According to state records, Yuri’s LLC was registered in 2015. The business was administratively dissolved by the Connecticut Secretary of the State in 2023 for failing to file an annual report, the records show.

Trujillo was indicted by a federal grand jury in New Haven on Oct. 7 and arrested on Oct. 9. She has been released on a $50,000 bond pending trial, Sullivan said. If convicted, she could face up to 57 years in prison.
