TIGTA Launches Interim Website During Government Shutdown

The interim website gives taxpayers access during the government shutdown to the watchdog's latest reports and keeps open ways for people to report fraud, waste, and abuse within IRS programs or by IRS employees.

An interim website for the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration is now live, giving taxpayers access during the government shutdown to the watchdog’s latest reports and keeping open ways for people to report fraud, waste, and abuse within IRS programs or by IRS employees.

It was reported last week that some inspector general websites, including TIGTA’s, were down across the federal government as of midday Wednesday during the first day of the partial government shutdown, after lawmakers on Capitol Hill could not make a deal on a stopgap funding bill.

For at least a half dozen government watchdog offices, their websites appeared blank on Oct. 1 except for a message on home landing screens that read: “Due to a lack of apportionment of funds, this website is currently unavailable.”

In an email Monday afternoon, TIGTA said:

We’re happy to share that we have an interim website. It enables you to read our newest audits, inspections, and evaluations. It also gives you the phone number and/or email address you need to report waste, fraud, and abuse in IRS programs.

Behind the scenes, we’re working to restore all of the tools and information that previously helped you, for example, track how IRS spent its Inflation Reduction Act funds, learn how to spot an IRS scam, and submit suggestions to improve the IRS.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or need help finding something, you can email us at TIGTAcommunications@tigta.treas.gov. We’re here to help.

The “Report Waste, Fraud and Abuse” link is in a red box at the top-right part of the interim website. There is also a “Reports” page that provides links to all of TIGTA’s most recent reports between Sept. 2 and Sept. 30, 2025.
