Crowe Expands Alteryx Use to Help Tax Departments Operationalize AI

Through Alteryx’s analytics and automation platform, Crowe says it's helping tax departments deploy artificial intelligence in ways that are repeatable, trusted, and scalable.

Crowe Advisory said Tuesday it’s expanding how it helps tax departments operationalize artificial intelligence, combining tax expertise and AI capabilities with business logic and governed automation enabled by Alteryx, an agentic analytics and automation company.

As tax departments explore AI, many are discovering that moving from experimentation to enterprise adoption requires more than AI tools alone. Organizations require business logic and governed workflows that make processes visible, understandable, repeatable, and auditable. Through Alteryx’s analytics and automation platform, Crowe says it’s helping organizations deploy AI in ways that are repeatable, trusted, and scalable. Governed data automation provides the foundation for AI-enabled workflows that improve confidence while maintaining consistency and control.

Rather than applying AI indiscriminately, Crowe advises tax departments on determining where automation, AI, and human expertise each create the greatest value. Instead of treating an entire tax engagement as a single AI opportunity, Crowe breaks complex tax workflows into discrete, repeatable tasks that enable clients to modernize incrementally while maintaining governance, quality, and professional judgment. Built-in validation, quality checks, and traceable processes improve confidence in AI-generated outputs by helping identify potential issues before work is delivered.

By applying AI strategically and using Alteryx’s business logic and governed automation, tax departments are reducing unnecessary AI processing, better managing AI consumption costs, and creating more predictable operating models, Crowe says.

“AI creates speed, but governance creates trust,” Matt Paparella, partner, Crowe Studio and Tax AI leader, said in a statement on Oct. 27. “Tax executives are under increasing pressure to demonstrate that AI can deliver measurable business value without increasing risk. By combining governed automation, AI, and tax expertise, we help tax leaders move AI into day-to-day tax operations with the consistency and controls they need at scale, enabling them to demonstrate the value of their AI investments to executive leadership.”

Crowe’s tax transformation capabilities are designed to support clients at every stage of their AI journey, from foundational education and workflow development to capability building and accelerated implementation. Depending on a client’s needs, Crowe says it can provide enablement, workflow development, managed services, or a combination of those capabilities.

“Every tax department’s transformation journey looks different,” Aaron Foster, Crowe tax transformation director, said in a statement. “Some organizations need help implementing technology, some are ready to build their own capabilities, and others want ongoing support. Our role is to meet clients where they are and deliver the right combination of technology, enablement, and expertise while helping them build lasting capabilities within their own tax organizations.”
