HEBRON, CT — A former accountant at a local nonprofit that provides development programs for young people has been arrested for embezzling more than $54,000, state police said.

Jennifer Green, 48, of Oakdale, has been charged with first-degree larceny, first-degree computer crime and third-degree identity theft, according to the Connecticut State Police.

In an arrest warrant, the agency said it began investigating Green in August when the executive director of AHM Youth and Family Services in Hebron reported the theft.

The director told investigators that the organization discovered a large shortage in tuition revenue during an annual review of financial records at the end of the fiscal year.

Green, an accounts receivable specialist responsible for processing incoming funds for the nonprofit, initially claimed the discrepancy was due to a mistake, the director alleged.

“She apologized and attributed the errors to being extremely busy,” the director told police.

The director said they continued to investigate the organization’s financial history because they did not believe that Green’s explanation accounted for all of the missing funds, the warrant states.

The nonprofit found that Green had modified transactions after they occurred and also learned she deposited AHM funds directly into her own personal bank account, police wrote.

When confronted, Green admitted to taking about $10,000 to $15,000, and suggested that a recent health scare she experienced contributed to her actions, the director told police.

“I’m so sorry it came to this,” Green texted the director, according to the warrant. “I was desperate when I had the health scare back in September and didn’t know what to do.”

According to the warrant, police seized bank records and determined Green transferred $54,653.76 from AHM into her bank account between May 2025 and July 2026.

Police said the funds were spent on retail purchases from Amazon, Target and other stores. Green also used the money to make several dozen Venmo transactions and ATM withdrawals, the warrant states.
