831(b) Institute to Host Complimentary CE Events for CPAs and Tax Advisors

The sessions are designed to help CPAs and tax advisors better understand the opportunities and risks associated with micro-captive structures and provide informed guidance to their small business clients.

CPAs, tax advisors, and other financial professionals are invited to attend a series of complimentary continuing education events hosted by the 831(b) Institute.

There are two upcoming events: Aug. 18 in Dallas and Sept. 22 in Atlanta. The events will provide professionals with an objective, compliance-focused examination of Internal Revenue Code Section 831(b) micro-captive insurance and its role in alternative risk financing.

The sessions are designed to help CPAs and tax advisors better understand the opportunities and risks associated with micro-captive structures and provide informed guidance to their small business clients.

Led by 831(b) Institute Advisor and Tax Attorney Peter Dawson, the presentations will cover the legislative history of IRC 831(b), the four-part qualification test, tax and accounting implications, investment guidelines, and IRS enforcement history. Attendees will also review real-world case law and documented abuses alongside compliant plan structures.

“Professionals need reliable information to distinguish legitimate risk-management strategies from structures that may create unnecessary compliance concerns,” Dawson said in a statement. “This session is designed to provide practitioners with a practical understanding of 831(b) micro-captives so they can more confidently evaluate these strategies and advise their clients.”

The events are part of the 831(b) Institute’s broader educational initiative to provide business and financial professionals with credible, practical information about 831(b) micro-captive insurance and its potential role in managing risks that may be underinsured or uninsured.
