Top 30 accounting firm UHY has expanded its presence in Iowa after acquiring Bettendorf-based CPA firm Anderson, Lower, Whitlow PC.
Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. Shareholders and founders Barry Anderson, Donald Lower, Todd Whitlow, and shareholder Matthew Brumfield will join UHY along with their team.
This is Farmington Hills, MI-based UHY’s fifth M&A deal in 2026. The firm has also added RBT CPAs, Larson Tax Partners, CMJ LLP, and Manley Garvin this year.
UHY received an injection of private equity funding from Boston-based investment firm Summit Partners in late 2024.

The deal with Anderson, Lower, Whitlow adds to UHY’s existing Iowa presence in Ames and Des Moines. Nationally, UHY employs more than 2,000 professionals across more than 40 offices in the United States.
Founded in 1992, Anderson, Lower, Whitlow’s expertise ranges from tax compliance and accounting services to more in-depth services, such as audits of financial statements, business tax, and financial planning.

“Iowa has a rich history in the manufacturing and agriculture space, two industries where UHY has deep expertise, and the region—led by rapid growth in cities like Bettendorf—is diversifying quickly, and that’s creating a growing demand for trusted, full-service accounting support,” Steven McCarty, chairman and CEO of UHY, said in a statement on Aug. 3. “The region’s rapid growth makes it an ideal market for UHY to expand our footprint, strengthen client relationships, and deliver even greater value to businesses in the region.”
Joining UHY “provides our clients with greater access to national resources and specialized expertise while creating exciting new opportunities for our team,” Donald Lower said in a statement. “This combination allows us to expand our services, enhance our capabilities, and continue delivering the personalized guidance our clients value. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
Brumfield added, “Just as importantly, this collaboration brings together teams who deeply understand the Iowa market and its impact on the national economy.”
