(April 9) NEW HAVEN — The owner of a Connecticut tax preparation company was indicted on federal tax fraud charges Wednesday for filing several fake returns to save her clients money, federal prosecutors said.

Jessey Guzman, 36, was charged with 33 counts of aiding in the preparation of a false income tax return and four counts of making and subscribing a false return, according to David X. Sullivan, U.S. attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Sullivan said Guzman, a former New Britain resident who now lives in Hughestown, Pennsylvania, filed the fraudulent returns on behalf of clients through her tax preparation New Britain business, Jacky’s Multiservices LLC.

“During the 2019 through 2022 tax years, Guzman falsified information on certain tax returns she prepared for clients to reduce her clients’ tax liability, increase their tax refund or increase the size of their tax credits,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan said Guzman also fabricated W-2s to fraudulently indicate her clients were employees of a purported New London construction business that she established in 2013 known as Molina and Family Construction LLC.

The documents were also changed to show false wages from the company and false federal income tax withholdings before being filed with the Social Security Administration and the IRS, Sullivan said.

Additionally, Guzman prepared and filed fake documents reporting business, rental property and education and child care expenses, Sullivan said.

The indictment also alleges Guzman prepared and filed false tax returns for her and her spouse claiming wages from the construction company and the withholding of federal taxes, Sullivan said.

Sullivan said the indictment was handed down by a federal grand jury in New Haven and that Guzman’s arraignment is pending. He said she faces up to three years in prison on each count, if convicted.
