Earlier this year, the Washington State Board of Accountancy passed a new rule that provide an additional route to a CPA credential.
The state, like most others, has long required 150 hours of college credit to qualify for the CPA credential, with specific business and accounting course work required. Under the new alternative route, graduates with at least 120 hours of coursework and at least one year of experience in the profession who have earned a CPA license from another state will be qualified to be a CPA in the state.
This is similar to state reciprocity rules, which enable most CPAs to work in any state.
