WASHIGNTON — A U.S. judge in Boston said Wednesday that Donald Trump’s buyout offer for federal employees can advance because the labor unions challenging the program don’t have standing in the case.
U.S. District Judge George O’Toole had temporarily delayed the Feb. 6 deadline for millions of federal workers to decide whether to accept the Trump administration offer to resign with the promise of months of full pay to allow time for “proper consideration” of the issues.
As of Friday, more than 65,000 federal employees had signed up for the offer.
The Office of Personnel Management didn’t immediately comment on the judge’s order, but previously said it planned to implement the program “as soon as legally permissible.”
