AICPA Honors Financial Reporting Leader with Gold Medal

As a leader on the forefront of financial reporting during a challenging period for the accounting and finance profession, Herz has demonstrated exemplary leadership and held key positions that have shaped the accounting landscape.

The American Institute of CPAs has awarded Robert H. Herz, CPA, CGMA, FCA, with its 2023 AICPA Gold Medal Award of Distinction. The award, presented since 1944, is the highest honor bestowed by the AICPA, recognizing CPAs “whose influence on the accounting profession has been especially notable.”

The award was presented by Tracey Golden, Past Chair, AICPA and the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, at the fall meeting of the AICPA governing council.

“Robert Herz has had invaluable impact on the growth and success of the accounting profession throughout his distinguished career,” Golden said. “Robert is a dedicated and passionate volunteer. His foresight and leadership have created significant positive changes in the CPA practice environment, always in support of the public interest and the profession. It is thanks to people like Robert that our profession can continue to be seen as one of truth and integrity.”

As a leader on the forefront of financial reporting during a challenging period for the accounting and finance profession, Herz has demonstrated exemplary leadership and held key positions that have shaped the accounting landscape. From 2002 to 2010, as Chair of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), he played a pivotal role in improving financial reporting standards and enhancing the transparency and reliability of financial information.

During his career, Herz served as a senior partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he led various initiatives and held senior roles, providing valuable guidance to clients and colleagues.

Herz played an important role in the creation of the Value Reporting Foundation, which brought together the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) Foundation, where he served from 2011 to 2017, and the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC). The SASB aims to drive enhanced corporate reporting, facilitate better decision-making, increase investor confidence, address global challenges, and contribute to the development of standardized and regulated sustainability reporting practices.

Currently Herz provides consulting services on financial reporting and other matters through his firm, Robert H. Herz LLC, where he serves as president.
