Career highlights:

  • I began working in forensic accounting on my first day in public accounting – it was my first chargeable hour.
  • I worked my way from staff to shareholder at a single firm, Thomas Howell Ferguson.
  • I chaired the FICPA’s Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards Committee, providing input to help standard-setters create new accounting and auditing standards.
  • I testify as an expert witness, often in economic damages, white collar crime, or similar cases.
  • I was admitted as a shareholder of Thomas Howell Ferguson in October 2018.
  • I became the assurance department director of Thomas Howell Ferguson on January 1, 2021, amid virtual auditing and a largely remote workforce.
  • I was elected as the 95th Chair of the FICPA for a term beginning July 1, 2022.

What are you doing to make a difference in the profession, your community, the world?

  • Professionally, I am Chair-Elect of the Florida Institute of CPAs, where I have been a volunteer almost my entire career. The importance of professional advocacy and networking cannot be overstated, and I am excited to help the FICPA engage and retain young members.
  • In my community, I am Chair of Leadership Tallahassee, which cultivates a diverse network of emerging and experienced leaders committed to improving our community.
  • For the world, I cannot succeed unless I raise a thoughtful, compassionate daughter and remember to take care of the less fortunate around us.

What do you like best about the accounting profession?

  • One impactful takeaway from the AICPA’s Leadership Academy was the creation of my personal mission statement, which is: “I will be the best father and friend I can be, live a fulfilling and engaging life, and strive to be a more complete person every day. I will use curiosity and dedication to provide insight and perspective, find the best answer to challenging issues, and work on projects that make a difference while encouraging those around me to achieve their best.”
  • This is why I enjoy forensic accounting and auditing, being and advocate for CPAs, and working as a shareholder at our firm: I get to live my personal mission every day. Everything I do speaks to some part of that statement.
  • The opportunity for each of us to put our own stamp on our own career is what excites me the most about the accounting profession.
  • At Thomas Howell Ferguson, “we make an impact in everything we do, providing the highest level of personal and professional service using seasoned judgment, creativity, and responsiveness.” What’s great about accounting is all in that mission!
