The AICPA Foundation is offering a new scholarship to help CPA Exam candidates cover the cost of exam fees or preparatory courses. The AICPA Foundation was established in 1922 to advance accounting as a learned profession and promote its future.

The new CPA Exam Scholarship will offer up to $1,500 to at least 50 AICPA Student Affiliate members or AICPA CPA Exam Candidate Affiliate members in the U.S. to reimburse fees for taking the CPA Exam as well as exam preparatory courses and materials.

“One of the core missions of the AICPA Foundation is to advance the accounting profession,” said Ernie Almonte, AICPA Foundation president. “This scholarship helps us achieve that objective by helping to defray the costs of becoming a licensed CPA.”

The CPA Exam consists of four parts taken over about 18 months, and individuals must take and pass all four to become licensed CPAs.

This new AICPA scholarship is available to U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are pursuing licensure and who have some financial need; i.e. not receiving other scholarships or grants or employer reimbursement. Applicants must be able to provide a copy of Notice To Schedule for at least one section of the CPA Exam and a copy of receipt for payment of exam application fees or proof of purchase of CPA Exam preparatory courses/materials.

Accountants who pass the CPA Exam and become licensed CPAs earn more and are in higher demand, according to staffing firm Robert Half. And accountants who hold a CPA license should have excellent job prospects, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“The CPA Exam is a doorway to all of the opportunities a career in accounting provides,” said Mike Decker, vice president of exams, AICPA. “We are pleased the AICPA Foundations is making this scholarship available to help those in financial need make that career leap.”

Scholarship applications will be accepted from June 1 to July 31, 2020. Interested CPA Exam candidates can learn more about the application eligibility guidelines or apply at ThisWayToCPA.com. The AICPA offers a host of annual scholarships for college students, fellowships for PhD candidates. In addition, they have consolidated hundreds of accounting scholarship opportunities from third parties on their ThisWayToCPA website.
