The Finance, Law, and Taxation programs within the NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) Division of Programs in Business will host the 38th Annual Institute on State and Local Taxation (SALT) on December 16-17, at the Grand Hyatt New York. Leading state and local taxation experts will provide high-level updates, practical advice, and in-depth analysis of the latest developments and current issues in all areas of state and local taxation.

The two-day Institute is intended for attorneys, accountants, state tax officials, tax directors, tax managers, and individuals who seek expert discussion on the latest technical, legislative, and planning developments. Attendees will learn practical solutions and gain valuable insights from authorities across the profession, while exploring the most pressing challenges and ethical dilemmas that are reshaping the industry. They also can obtain credit for continuing education.

Timely topics that will be covered through panel discussions on Day One include: Overview and Preview of Federal Constitutional Issues; Wayfair Writ Large: The Spread of Economic Nexus; Does Wayfair Affect P.L. 86-272?; Combined Reporting and the Resurgence of Worldwide Combination; TCJA as Applied by the States: The Good, the Bad, and the Gilti; Sales and Use Taxation Beyond Wayfair; and Don’t Get Caught in the Ethics Web – Maneuvering Around Sticky SALT Issues in a Technological World.

Each year during the luncheon portion of the Institute, NYUSPS acknowledges an individual who has contributed to the industry and to society at large. On December 16, the NYUSPS Paul H. Frankel Award for Outstanding Achievement in State and Local Taxation will be presented to J. William McArthur, Jr., Esq., former VP Tax Planning at TE Connectivity, in recognition of his unparalleled contributions in all areas of state and local taxation. The luncheon address will be delivered by Peter L. Faber, Esq., McDermott Will & Emery, and will focus on his experiences during his 55-year career as a tax attorney.

Day Two will include discussions on: Pass-Through Entities – Latest Developments Affecting State Taxation of Partnerships, LLCs, and their Owners; State Tax Issues in Mergers and Acquisitions; Tax Department of the Future: Technology in the Tax Function; Recent Developments in Allocation and Apportionment; and What’s Happening Everywhere Today [in SALT]?
