What are you doing to make a difference in the profession, your community, the world?

The number one thing I am doing to make a difference in the profession is being a teacher. Annually I will see 250 – 300 accounting students walk through my classroom and each time I teach them; I like to think I’m making a difference in the profession. The other place I make a difference is on YouTube. Each day people around the world are watching my channel consuming an average of 1,600 minutes of video each day. On the profession front, I do serve on the AICPA’s Student Recruiting Committee and have presented teaching technique workshops for the American Accounting Association.

Favorite books/websites/speakers that you find influential:

Gary Vaynerchuk is my most influential speaker by far. I enjoy watching him and listening to him talk about business and how much he doesn’t know and how he overcomes that as a CEO and entrepreneur. I also enjoy listening to Bobby Bones each morning on the radio and through his podcast, The Bobby Cast.

What do you see yourself doing professionally in 10 years?

Teaching. As long as I am able to stand in front of a classroom and provide a quality level of education, I would hope I am still teaching. I really enjoy the relationship between a faculty member and the student, there is nothing like it.

What accounting conferences do you normally attend?

I normally try to attend the American Accounting Association’s national meeting or regional meeting events annually.

What websites/magazines do you use to keep up on news of the accounting profession?

I am always looking at CPA Practice Advisor, the AICPA, and social media to keep up with the accounting profession.
