More than two dozen minority accounting students spent part of their winter break learning skills to help advance their future careers. Last week they participated in the Illinois CPA Society’s highly competitive Mary T. Washington Wylie Internship Preparation Program, which provides three days of training, resources and mentorship for selected applicants. The primary goal is to prepare students with the skills needed to obtain and to succeed in accounting internships.
During the program, the following organizations presented sessions and many interviewed students for a variety of paid accounting internships: Abbott, Crowe LLP, Deloitte LLP, Ernst & Young LLP, Grant Thornton LLP, KPMG LLP, PwC LLP, and Sikich LLP. Additionally, all participants received a $500 scholarship to help with educational expenses.
The Illinois CPA Society is proud to recognize the following students who completed the 2019 Mary T. Washington Wylie Internship Preparation Program:

The Internship Preparation Program is funded by donations to the CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois’ Mary T. Washington Wylie Opportunity Fund.
Mary T. Washington Wylie, the first African-American female CPA in the country, was a trailblazer for minorities in the accounting profession. This program bearing her name advances diversity within the profession by building skills and presenting new opportunities for minority accounting students to be successful.
The CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois is a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization founded in 1998 by Illinois CPA Society members. The fund was created to assure a strong, talented, and diverse CPA profession by encouraging students to choose accounting as a career choice and become a CPA. By supporting students, particularly those in need, the fund seeks to help students achieve the CPA credential through scholarships and other career-advancing programs.
