  • 2012: Joined Somerset CPAs as an auditor – this was the single best decision I’ve made in my professional career.
  • 2013: Being appointed to the INCPAS Emerging Leaders Alliance. This was the informal start to my volunteerism with the Indiana CPA Society. It has allowed me to serve in various capacities.
  • 2014: Joining the Penrod Society. This has allowed me to make a substantive difference in the Indianapolis community through investing time and resources to a cause in which I believe.
  • 2015: Graduating from the AICPA Leadership Academy – this allowed me to meet several individuals that I consider to be among the absolute best and brightest in the profession.
  • 2016: Accepted the business development role at Somerset.

What are you doing to make a difference in the profession, your community, the world?

  • I serve as a member of the Penrod Society whose mission is to cultivate, encourage and develop public interest in and support of those arts, cultural and educational institutions located in the Central Indiana area.
  • I serve as a member of the American Cancer Society’s YP Council. Our mission is to empower and engage young professionals to advance the mission of the Society and ultimately, to save more lives from cancer.
  • I serve as the chair for the American Heart Association YP Board, Young at Heart, whose mission is to eradicate disability and death caused by cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Favorite books/websites/speakers :

I’ve enjoyed reading James Collins books (“Good to Great”, “Built to Last” and “Great by Choice”, specifically) and enjoyed the Tony Shai book, “Delivering Happiness”. I also read “The Carrot Principal” by Adrian Gostick and Chester Elton

What do you see yourself doing professionally in 10 years?

Hopefully I will still be at Somerset CPAs and continuing to work closely both with the INCPAS and AICPA.

What accounting conferences do you normally attend?

CPA Practice Advisor‘s Ensuring Success and AICPA Engage are both must attends.

What websites/magazines do you use to keep up on news of the accounting profession? CPA Practice Advisor and Journal of Accountancy are great. The local “INCPA Perspectives” is a great magazine as well.
