1099 Forms Filer/Payroll (AMS Payroll) from Advanced Micro Solutions is an add-on module that is designed to work with other AMS software products including W-2/1099 Forms Filer. AMS Payroll cannot be used as a stand-alone payroll application.  

Best suited for small to mid-sized businesses as well as accounting firms that offer payroll services to clients, AMS Payroll is an on-premise application that is installed on local desktop systems. AMS Payroll does not offer a cloud version of the application nor mobile accessibility at this time.

AMS Payroll offers both live and after-the-fact payroll processing, and currently supports payroll for all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

Users will need to select a payer to begin entering payroll data. Once selected, a basic user interface offers access to options such as Module, Payer, Deposits, View, Input, and Reports, along with several other choices. Those that are processing payroll for clients can access all client data from this interface as well. The product also offers several options that users can choose to implement during payroll processing, including the ability to suppress hours and payrates on payroll vouchers, suppress social security numbers, and a definable work week.

Mentioned earlier, AMS Payroll includes tax tables for all 50 states the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Users can assign employees to multiple states, though they can only print quarterly returns for one state, with the program prompting the user to choose the state they wish to print.

AMS Payroll offers fairly standard reporting options, with reports such as Employee Period Detail, State Wage Worksheet, Payer Check Detail, and Employee Federal Withholding Detail. There are few options available to customize reports, though they can be exported as a tab-delimited file and opened in Microsoft Excel for customization if desired.

AMS supports all common federal payroll forms such as the 941, 940, 943, 944 and 1040 Schedule H as well as SUI forms for all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. AMS Payroll will also electronically file 941, 944, and 940 forms and can easily export W-2 and 1099 data to the optional Forms Filer for year-end processing. The product also offers electronic filing for 29 states and can handle both state and federal tax deposits as well.

AMS Payroll users can import payroll data into the system via tab-delimited text files, but the product does not integrate with any third-party time-keeping applications.

Designed as an add-on module, users will need to purchase W-2/1099 Forms Filer in order to use AMS Payroll. The product also integrates with several other AMS products including 1042-Filer, ACA Filer, e-Filer, Direct, Forms Filer Plus and Software Generated Forms. Integration with third party applications is limited to importing and exporting data from QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and Sage 50.

Though users can easily track a variety of data using the user-defined fields available in AMS Payroll, the product does not offer any HR tools at this time.

AMS Payroll offers solid product support, with users able to request support via telephone or by filling out the Contact Support form on the website. Utility downloads can be accessed from the Customer Support option on the AMS website, and users can also access software manuals for each of the AMS modules sold. A FAQ page is available as well.

AMS Payroll is an add-on module that integrates with W-2/1099 Forms Filer, along with other AMS modules. Best suited for smaller businesses, AMS Payroll is $129, with W2/1099 Forms Filer running $129, and is required in order to run AMS Payroll. the payroll module. Additional modules such as AMS E-File, 1042-S Filer, and Forms Filer Plus are all priced separately. A free demo is also available for users to download by filling out an information sheet.
