Thomson Reuters has launched the Checkpoint Learning Small Business Start-Up Certificate Program for accounting professionals who seek to increase their knowledge of small business issues in order to better serve the fastest growing sector of employment in the United States.
There are 28.8 million small businesses in the United States, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration, and they employ 56.8 million people. Small businesses (defined as those with fewer than 500 employees) account for 99.7% of all business in the U.S. The first few years of a business are the hardest, with only half surviving five years.
This curriculum explores writing a business plan, new business financing options, entity comparisons, fraud prevention, mobile applications for sales and taxes, reporting client data, and the basic concepts of providing small business advice and consulting.
“Small businesses already represent a huge engine of economic growth, and given the potential for a reduction in regulations, start-ups may soon find themselves in an even more hospitable environment,” said Salim Sunderji, Managing Director, Checkpoint, with the Thomson Reuters Tax & Accounting business. “CPAs who are poised to expand beyond their core practices into small business consulting services, particularly around decisions involved in early-stage development, may find themselves with a dynamic new source of growth for themselves and their firms.”
Candidates who successfully complete the course work and comprehensive final exam will earn a Checkpoint Learning Small Business Start-Up Competency Certificate as well as approximately 38 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit.
