Q&A:

Aside from the accounting websites, which blog/website do you consider a must-read?

I frequent CNN.com to get up to speed with the world’s activities.

In what ways have you contributed to your firm/company to make it better?

I have helped the firm increase the profitability of the audit department, promoted ideas firm-wide on how to become one of the best places to work, and try to be an example to my team on how to be a professional.

In what ways do you participate in the professional community to change/improve the accounting profession?

I believe in giving back to the community and promoting accounting, and as a result I am a member of the Alumni Board at Florida International University which promotes business academics for the university.

In what ways do you participate in your local community to help others?

Besides being a member of the Alumni Board at Florida International University, I am Chair of the United Way’s Audit Committee and Vice-Chair of the Coral Gables Economic Development Board.

What changes do you foresee in the accounting profession of the near future (3-5 years)?

Technology will continue to be a factor, and as such the way audits are conducted will likely become more automated in order to assist auditors in spotting trends they otherwise may not have been able to identify.

How do you see yourself participating in shaping the future of the accounting profession?

In the future I would like to get involved in an AICPA committee and assist that committee with the evolving challenges of the profession.

What is your career philosophy?

Set big dreams and goals every year and work as hard as you possibly can to achieve those goals.

Describe one person who has been an important mentor to you and how that person helped change your life.

I’ve been fortunate to have many great mentors along the way. My current mentor is Tony Argiz, our chairman and CEO.
