BKR International Awards Five Scholarships to Accounting Students

Scholarship recipients are proposed by BKR member firms in each of three designated regions and are then approved by the Worldwide Board.

BKR International, ranked in the top five global accounting associations, again presented its annual scholarship awards to honor accounting students around the world for their exemplary academic achievements in the accounting profession. This distinctive program, unique among global accounting associations, awards $3,000 per student toward the cost of obtaining a professional accounting credential in their country. Since its inception in 2012, the scholarship program has awarded more than $50,000 to 18 students in 11 countries.

Scholarship recipients are proposed by BKR member firms in each of three designated regions and are then approved by the Worldwide Board. The 2015 awards were presented as follows:

  • –   BKR Asia/Pacific Winners: Yang Wu and Lingzi Xu of Chengdu, China, nominated by Chengdu Zhongda (Chengdu, China)
  • –   BKR Europe/Middle East/Africa Winner: Talisa Aab of Pretoria, South Africa, nominated by Logista
    (Pretoria, South Africa)
  • –   BKR Americas Winners: Erica Shade of Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania, nominated by Fischer Cunnane & Associates Ltd; Mary Ann Murtha of Bordentown, NJ, nominated by St. Clair CPA Solutions (Philadelphia Region, Pennsylvania, USA)

While announcing the two award winners at the Americas Regional Meeting in Philadelphia in June, Jason Tonjes, Americas Region Chairman, said, “Our two member firms in the Philadelphia area that nominated the winners had a difficult time in choosing just one candidate each from an outstanding roster of young talent who must have demonstrated a strong desire to succeed in the accounting profession, The winners showed outstanding initiative in their studies and internship programs.” See a video of the winners here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6br6HW9RCAs

BKR’s Worldwide Chairman, Howard Rosen, stated, “Quality people are the pivotal element in growing a successful accounting practice. BKR and its member firms recognize how crucial it is to help young accountants around the world who will become our profession’s future leaders.”

BKR will present its final award for 2015 during its Annual Worldwide Meeting in Paris, October 31 – November 3, 2015.
