Accounting Firm Raises $150K for Special Operations Warrior Foundation and Safe At Home Foundation

Over the past nine years, CohnReznick’s outing has raised a combined total of more than $1.45 million for these two organizations through the firm's charitable outreach arms, the CohnReznick Foundation and the CohnReznick CARES initiative.

CohnReznick LLP, one of the largest accounting, tax, and advisory firms in the U.S. recently donated a total of $150,000 to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) and the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation at its 24th Annual Charity Golf Invitational held on June 15, 2015. Over the past nine years, CohnReznick’s outing has raised a combined total of more than $1.45 million for these two organizations through the firm’s charitable outreach arms, the CohnReznick Foundation and the CohnReznick CARES initiative.

Longtime supporter Capital One Commercial Banking was the presenting sponsor of the outing, which hosted more than 100 golfers and special guests at Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, NJ. Other major sponsors included Lord Abbett, Quattour Capital Partners of Raymond James, Wolters Kluwer, and Zenith Marketing Group.

The CohnReznick Foundation supports children in need, from young children to college students. SOWF provides college scholarship grants, financial aid, and educational counseling to the children of Special Operations personnel who were killed in an operational mission or training accident. The Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation is devoted to ending the cycle of domestic violence and loss of life through Margaret’s Place and other programs, including school-wide anti-violence campaigns, developmental workshops focusing on coping and leadership skills, and educational forums for school staff and parents.

CohnReznick spokesperson and 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Joe Torre attended the day’s opening ceremonies, offering his appreciation for the support his organization receives from the many charitable people who attended. Mr. Torre rode the course to shake hands, take photos, and share a few stories with the participants.

Participating in the day of golf as well as speaking on behalf of SOWF was Vice Admiral Joe Maguire, U.S. Navy, Retired, President of SOWF. Before joining SOWF, Admiral Maguire served as Deputy Director for Strategic Operational Planning at the National Counterterrorism Center in Washington and was a career Naval Special Warfare Officer (SEAL) retiring as Vice Admiral.

Speaking on behalf of the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation during the evening program was Yolanda Jimenez, Executive Director. Ms. Jimenez has devoted over 30 years to a career in public service, and recently served as Commissioner of the New York City Mayor’s Office to Combat Domestic Violence. She was also Commissioner of Community Affairs for the NYC Police Department.

Donation checks were presented to both charities by Thomas J. Marino and Kenneth E. Baggett, Co-CEOs of CohnReznick; Frank Longobardi, CohnReznick’s CEO-elect; and John Corsaro, a CohnReznick partner and chairman of the outing.

“This outing provides a wonderful opportunity to spend a day with friends of the Firm who share in our commitment to supporting the tireless efforts of these two special charities,” said Baggett.

“We extend our special thanks to those who have supported us year after year; and for those who are joining us for the first time this year, we hope they feel as proud as we are to help such great causes,” said Marino.

Steve Adubato, Emmy Award-winning PBS anchor, media analyst, author, and executive coach, was the evening’s master of ceremonies and conducted an exciting live auction that included such packages as seats in the WB Mason luxury box at Yankee Stadium, a chance to join the New York Mets photographer, Marc Levine, at Citi Field and take pictures, and a three-day exclusive golf trip for two including airfare.

Each year, CohnReznick distinguishes its event with unique experiences throughout the day for its guests. Golfers look forward to the exciting $10,000 shoot-out with a guaranteed winner, as well as a Titleist and FootJoy shopping spree, closest-to-the pin prizes, team prizes, and a silent auction featuring more than 30 unique items.
