Thomson Reuters has released a new white paper for tax professionals, Unlocking the Limits of the Keyword: 5 Ways to be a Better Tax Researcher. The paper addresses key challenges practitioners face when answering complex tax questions — exploring the evolution of the tax research process from print to digital and examining the viability of the keyword search.

Modern technology allows savvy researchers to delve into complex tax-related topics more efficiently and accurately than ever. This white paper outlines five ways to improve tax research by taking advantage of available technology.

“Increased complexity in business operations and tax law can result in information overload,” said Jennifer Kowal, professor and director of the graduate tax program at Loyola Law School, and author of the paper. “Expectations for fast yet accurate answers make performing tax research difficult in today’s environment.”

“Researchers need to be able to easily identify the connections between sources of information,” said Steve Zelman, senior vice president of product platforms for the Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters. “Using an intelligent tax research platform designed to bring these connections into focus, such as Checkpoint Catalyst, makes the process easier for all researchers, from novice to expert.”

Eli Dicker, executive director of Tax Executives Institute (TEI) added, “TEI Members want to ensure all levels of staff at their organizations are following a thorough tax research workflow process. This white paper outlines a ‘back to basics’ approach for tax research best practices, which can now be accomplished much easier with the latest tax research technology solutions.”

The white paper is available for download at no cost.
