Armanino LLP, the largest independent accounting and business consulting firm based in California, announced today the appointment of Chris Carlberg as its first General Counsel in the firm's history. Carlberg is responsible for overseeing all legal work for the firm as well as advising on business policy and overall governance.

“As Armanino focuses on Cloud Solutions and continued double-digit growth, we know having an in-house counsel will better equip Armanino to continue to expand the services we offer our clients. Chris' vast experience in preparing businesses for scalable expansion is a great asset to our team,” said Managing Partner Andy Armanino. “His specific knowledge of new technologies accumulated during his years at technology powerhouse Amazon.com pairs perfectly with his legal expertise, business orientation, and acumen.”

Carlberg most recently served as Senior Corporate Counsel at Amazon.com, where he led a team that supported product development and operations of the company's cloud computing business, and helped implement that division's worldwide professional services arm. He also was a lead advisor on strategic partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, complex commercial agreements, sales and marketing matters, and international expansion.

Prior to Amazon.com, Carlberg was an attorney for Perkins Coie LLP in Seattle, Wash. During his tenure, he represented clients such as Boeing, Costco, Intel, Sprint, and T-Mobile in a variety of business transactions including technology licenses, commercial partnerships, joint ventures, and mergers and acquisitions. While at Perkins Coie, he was named to the 2009 list of “Rising Stars” by Washington Law & Politics. Earlier in his career, Carlberg worked as an attorney at Dorsey & Whitney LLP, where he helped clients with mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financings and corporate securities matters.

He received a J.D. and M.B.A. from Boston College, and a bachelor's degree in business administration and history from the University of Washington.
