Sidebar Article from the August 2008 Review of
Document Storage
Programs

As the name implies, ShareFile is a tool for organizing files and sharing
them online internally and externally with clients. For all practical purposes,
it is a file storage tool with virtually no functionality relative to document
management such as scanning, annotation or integration. An important bi-product
benefit of this solution is that is can serve as a remote backup site for critical
data files.

With that being said, let’s focus on the key strengths of the ShareFile
system. The first key feature is that it is a web-hosted solution, allowing
you to login to the ShareFile site to upload, access and download your files.
Each user (employee) can set up folders in their “File Box” and
can assign rights for client users to view and/or upload files to the folder.
A “Request a File” feature will send an e-mail to a client requesting
them to upload five files. The e-mail will contain a link to the site, and you
can control how long the link will remain available (a month, year, etc.). You
will receive an e-mail notification any time a file is uploaded or downloaded.

ShareFile is sold in four different plans that are priced based upon the number
of users and the amount of storage space provided. The basic plan is priced
at $29.95 for two employees, unlimited clients and 5GB of storage. The highest
level Enterprise Gold plan is priced at $499.95 per month for 150 employees,
unlimited clients and 150GB of storage. Technical support and web-based training
sessions are included in the price.
