Waldron Rand, the oldest ongoing public accounting firm in Massachusetts, celebrates 100th year.

100yrs

The staff at Waldron H. Rand & Company, P.C. may need to get a fire permit before lighting the candles on the cake for their firm’s anniversary party. The firm, which is the oldest ongoing public accounting practice in Massachusetts, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, having been established in 1912 by accounting pioneer Waldron H. Rand.

Rand was also a founding member and president of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA), and president of the predecessor organization to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). In its 100 years, the firm has grown to provide accounting, auditing, tax, and business advisory services to individuals and privately held businesses in a wide range of industries throughout the U.S. and globally.

“Reaching 100 years is a great milestone for Waldron Rand,” said William L. Kams, Waldron Rand Shareholder & President. “Founder Waldron H. Rand’s service philosophy and dedication to the continual advancement of the industry is embedded in the Firm’s culture today. This tradition of excellence is why Waldron Rand is the oldest practicing public accounting firm in Massachusetts.”

To commemorate its anniversary, the firm launched the Centennial Community Challenge, a firm-wide charitable giving drive that challenges its employees and their immediate families to give 1912 hours of volunteerism to support nonprofit organizations and communities in need. To date, Waldron Rand has donated nearly 1,000 hours of volunteer service to organizations such as:

In August, Waldron Rand will take part in a group volunteer project at the Franklin Park Zoo, which is also celebrating its 100th anniversary. Waldron Rand employees and their families will make enrichment items for the animals. Some members of the firm will also participate in zoo beautification projects such as weeding, planting, and fence-painting.

The centenary accounting firm will culminate the year-long celebration with an anniversary reception on October 3, 2012. Waldron Rand shareholders, staff, clients, and business affiliates will gather at The Endicott Estate in Dedham, Massachusetts for an evening of cocktails, canapés and conversation.
