Whitley Penn Adds Kyle McKnight to Oil & Gas Consulting Group

Whitley Penn, often recognized as a Top 100 Firm in the U.S. recently announced that Kyle McKnight, CPA has joined the firm as a Controller within the firm’s Oil & Gas Consulting group. McKnight has more than 19 years of significant upstream oil and gas accounting experience, most recently as Vice President and Controller of Riviera Resources. Prior to Riviera Resources, he held various accounting management positions with LINN Energy and El Paso Corporation.

McKnight is a graduate of Texas Tech University where he earned his B.B.A. in Accounting and Finance.

DHG Admits Five New Partners and Principals

Dixon Hughes Goodman (DHG), a U.S. top 20 professional services firm, announced the firm will admit five new partners and principals, effective June 1, 2021.

The new partners and principals are as follows:

CBIZ Adds Insurance Industry Veteran, Gerry McCarthy, to Expand Tax Group Services

CBIZ, the nation’s 10th largest accounting and tax provider, has expanded its Tax Practice with the addition of Gerry McCarthy, CPA. Gerry has joined as a Tax Managing Director and works out of both the Boston, MA and Providence, RI offices.

Gerry provides tax consulting, compliance and financial reporting services to all segments of the insurance industry, with expertise in joint venture and acquisition structuring, investment tax considerations, and reinsurance and life insurance reserve planning. Gerry received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Babson College.

Craig Stern joins Mazars

Mazars, a leading audit, tax, and advisory firm in the US, announced that Craig Stern has joined the firm as a Managing Director in the Real Estate Group. With 30+ years of experience in the real estate and investment industries, Mr. Stern will focus on growing the Real Estate Investment Trust (REITS) Practice. Worth noting, Mr. Stern has worked on over 100 mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, inbound investments, and spinoffs, with deals ranging from $1 million to $6 billion.


Kate Devey Takes Office as 2021-2022 President of the Texas Society of CPAs Permian Basin Chapter

Whitley Penn Tax Senior Manager Kate Devey, begins her term as the 2021-2022 Texas Society of CPAs Permian Basin (TXCPA Permian Basin) Chapter President June 1. Devey assumes this role immediately following Whitley Penn Audit Principal J.D. Faircloth who has served as Chapter President for the 2020-2021 term.

Devey has more than 10 years of tax and client services experience advising clients on tax planning, regulatory compliance, accounting and related individual and small business matters.  Her clients include partnerships, limited liability companies, small business corporations, C-Corporations, and high net-worth individuals.

Devey has been awarded TXCPA Rising Star, TXCPA Permian Basin Outstanding Director, and The University of Texas of the Permian Basin Outstanding Graduate in MPA. Devey earned her B.B.A. and M.P.A from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.

Stephen Worth Joins Schneider Downs as State and Local Tax Shareholder

Schneider Downs, one of the 60 largest certified public accounting and business advisory firms in the United States, is proud to announce that Stephen Worth, CPA, JD, has been named tax shareholder to lead the firm’s growing State and Local Tax (SALT) practice. Mr. Worth will be based in the firm’s Columbus, OH office, while leading the firm’s SALT practice across the firm’s offices in Columbus, Pittsburgh and Washington D.C.

In this position, Mr. Worth will focus on client needs specific to state and local tax issues, including state corporate income/franchise tax, sales and use tax, property tax and incentives/credits.

Mr. Worth is both a certified public accountant (CPA) and a licensed attorney. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting and Finance from the University of Cincinnati, and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
