Accounting Students Share Why They Want to Earn Their CPA Credential

Opening new doors and career opportunities, bettering their communities and making an impact on the world are a few of the many reasons why students are pursuing their CPA license.

That’s what the winners of the American Institute of CPA (AICPA)’s ThisWaytoCPA Student Video Competition said.

The AICPA competition, which concluded in December 2019, was designed to engage college accounting students and provide a better understanding of what is driving students to attain their CPA. It is one of a wide variety of efforts by the AICPA to generate interest in the profession and the CPA licensure.

For the video competition, full-time students at two- or four-year colleges or universities submitted a two-minute video answering: “Why do you want to become a CPA?” Videos were scored on the quality of content and production, as well as the degree to how memorable or creative they were. The five highest-scoring participants received $500.

The winning ThisWaytoCPA Student Video Competition entries were posted online to inspire other students to pursue their CPAs.

The AICPA remains committed to fostering a strong pipeline of students entering the accounting profession and attaining their CPA license. This includes several scholarships to help students gain their accounting education, high school curricula so students enter college with a solid foundation in accounting, and internship and leadership programs for college students.
