During the New York State CPA Society’s Meet the IRS Day, CPA Practice Advisor’s Editor-in-Chief Emerita Gail Perry, CPA, met with Erin Collins, the National Taxpayer Advocate, as well as former commissioners, and several other IRS senior staffers. Attendees were able to ask these IRS staff deep questions on the top issues facing the agency, including funding, IT infrastructure, staffing, enforcement, and other topics.
The event is an annual, full-day session held in January that connects CPAs with senior IRS leadership and staff. The 2026 event took place on January 21, 2026, with in-person and virtual options for professionals to participate. It featured updates from the National Taxpayer Advocate and featured an IRS on-site problem-solving team to assist with unresolved matters.
