Tax compliance company Sovos announced on Tuesday a major expansion of Sovi AI across the Sovos Tax Compliance Cloud, introducing new capabilities for tax and regulatory guidance, intelligent automation, compliance insights, and agent interoperability.

The announcement brings together a growing set of artificial intelligence innovations across the Sovos platform, which include Sovos Intelligence and AI-powered mappings for tax determination and filing. New capabilities announced on March 24 include Ask Sovi, error diagnosis and remediation features, and new interoperability support through Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Agent-to-Agent (A2A) frameworks.

“At Sovos, we believe AI should do more than just generate answers from user documentation. It should help tax teams work faster, make better decisions, and operate with greater confidence,” Sovos CEO Kevin Akeroyd said in a statement. “With these new Sovi AI capabilities, we are embedding agentic AI across the tax compliance workflow in a way that is practical, governed, and purpose-built for the complexity of global compliance.”

At the center of the announcement is Ask Sovi, an AI assistant built directly into the Sovos Tax Compliance Cloud. Beyond helping users navigate product workflows and user documentation, Ask Sovi provides fast, context-aware answers to complex regulatory questions within the flow of work.

Ask Sovi is built on more than 40 years of Sovos expertise, a knowledge base maintained by more than 100 global regulatory specialists and tax compliance coverage across 150-plus countries. Ask Sovi also supports conversations in multiple global languages and can interpret tax and regulatory content across languages.

Over time, Sovos says it plans to extend these capabilities into guided, human-approved actions inside the platform.

Current and planned Sovi AI capabilities include:

  • Problem-to-resolution guidance: AI diagnoses root causes, proposes specific fixes, and executes corrections once approved by Sovos users, with no support tickets or handoffs.
  • Business-specific recommendations: Sovi understands entity structures, tax registrations, and filing history to deliver personalized guidance, not generic answers.
  • Proactive issue detection: The Sovos platform surfaces compliance problems before filing deadlines, before teams think to ask.
  • Regulatory intelligence: Continuously updated by Sovos specialists, with real-time assessment of how rule changes affect each customer’s specific configuration.
  • Full audit transparency: Every recommendation, approval, and action is documented for complete governance visibility.

These capabilities are built on the foundation of Sovos Intelligence, which gives customers AI-powered visibility across all their compliance data—from invoicing and filing patterns to emerging risks. An update to Sovos Intelligence is planned for later this year.

Sovos says it’s also developing the foundation for open agent interoperability through its Sovos MCP Gateway, infrastructure designed to provide AI agents with standardized, governed access to the Sovos Tax Compliance Cloud. Over time, this foundation is expected to support A2A orchestration, enabling customers to connect Sovos compliance intelligence, data, and workflows with their own AI tools and agent environments.

“For enterprises building broader AI ecosystems, Sovos is architecting for a future in which compliance capabilities are consumed not only through applications, but through trusted, interoperable agents as well,” the Wilmington, MA-based company said in a media release.

“Tax compliance is not a category where AI can be useful without governance, traceability, and deep domain context,” Swati Garodia, chief product officer at Sovos, said in a statement. “These capabilities are designed to help customers move faster while keeping humans in control. That combination of intelligence, workflow integration, and governance is what makes Sovi AI different.”

The new capabilities are available now or rolling out across applicable Sovos solutions.
