Tax technology platform april has launched its real-time, personalized tax calculation product for equity transactions, in partnership with Nasdaq Private Market.
At the point of decision-making, the solution gives users visibility into potential tax liabilities—from liquidation events ranging from stock sales to equity compensation.
According to april, Nasdaq Private Market served as an innovation partner and initial launch partner “to address the growing need among employee shareholders for clear, real-time guidance on the tax implications of various forms of equity compensation.”
“As the number of self-directed investors grows and market activity accelerates, individuals are increasingly making complex financial decisions without clear insight into their tax implications. Traditionally, the tax consequences of stock sales are uncertain until filing, resulting in unexpected liabilities,” april said in a Nov. 13 media release, adding that its new product embeds real-time tax intelligence directly into the transaction flow.
The launch marks the first instance that tax tools and forecasting are being brought into the moment of decision making, the New York City-based company says. By integrating seamlessly with brokerage and equity management platforms, april now enables investors to understand the tax impact of potential actions before executing them, transforming tax from a reactive burden into a proactive planning tool.

The capability also provides a new depth of client guidance for financial advisors. Advisors can now estimate the tax impact of major financial events, such as exercising stock options, liquidating equity, or executing large portfolio transactions, and model how different actions affect after-tax outcomes.
“April’s new product creates an advisory experience where investment, tax, and planning decisions are all connected in one view,” the company says.

“April’s mission is to embed tax into every financial decision,” Ben Borodach, co-founder and CEO of april, said in a statement. “This integration brings that vision to life in a high-stakes moment by helping shareholders acknowledge the tax impact of a potential sale and ultimately improve their financial outcome.”
“Tax is an integral part of making smart financial decisions,” added Raj Doshi, president and chief operating officer of april. “By delivering personalized tax insights within the platforms in which decisions are made, we’re giving both advisors and investors the information they need to optimize financial outcomes.”
According to april, Nasdaq Private Market is the first in the industry to integrate the equity tax calculator into their clients’ workflows. As a result, private company shareholders will now be able to model equity sale scenarios and receive personalized tax estimates based on filing status, location, and sale assumptions all within the NPM platform.
“The new feature simplifies a historically opaque part of the private markets: understanding what a sale could mean for your tax position, before committing to a transaction,” april said.
“Selling private shares shouldn’t require guesswork,” said Tom Callahan, CEO at Nasdaq Private Market. “By embedding real-time tax intelligence into our tender offer platform, and ultimately SecondMarket, we’re setting a new standard for what private shareholders should expect: more clarity, more control, and a dramatically better experience than anything else in the market.”
