New York City-based Abacor, which describes itself as “accountants-turned-product builders,” has debuted an AI assistant for accounting firms that it says eliminates the manual work across the entire client meeting process—preparing agendas, capturing insights, and syncing directly into practice management systems.

“Accountants spend most of their day using tools to support clients. These solutions play a significant role in shaping their overall satisfaction, and the ability to serve their clients. Yet for too long, the bar for software for accountants has been low: broken bank feeds, slow systems, and user interfaces that feel decades old. My co-founder, Ying [Xu], and I started Abacor to change this forever,” David Lam, co-founder and CEO of Abacor, wrote in a blog post on Oct. 22. “We believe accountants deserve beautifully crafted, reliable, and truly useful technology. Every pixel matters, just as every number matters to an accountant.”
Lam—who had stops at accounting firms Deloitte, Crowe, and PwC, as well as Amazon and Gusto, during his career—noted that on average, accountants spend 50 minutes preparing for and following up on every client meeting. This pain escalates for every accountant within a firm, he stressed.
“Client meetings are one of the most important milestones in any service line within an accounting firm. They’re where trust is built and client relationships grow. Yet today, many accountants struggle to give clients their full attention because they’re busy taking notes, recalling past details, or chasing follow-ups that take days,” Lam wrote. “Abacor is the world’s first AI assistant purpose-built for accountants, by accountants. It transcribes your meetings, captures context, and instantly generates notes, action items, and follow-ups tailored to an accountant’s workflow. Better yet, Abacor integrates seamlessly with your favorite practice management tools, giving firms real-time visibility across every client.”

Xu, who is co-founder and chief technology officer of Abacor, wrote in a post on LinkedIn that accounting has always hit close to home for him.
“My mom was an accountant before retiring, and some of my earliest memories are of her teaching me to use an abacus when I was in elementary school,” wrote Xu, who previously worked at Microsoft, Stripe, and Wholesail. “Building together has been incredible. David brings the industry credibility and product leadership experience that I could never have alone. Excited to build something that truly serves the people who keep our economy running.”
Lam wrote that the AI assistant is just the first step for Abacor.
“We envision a future where every accountant is supported by dependable, proactive AI agents built specifically for the industry. A future where firms run more efficiently, avoid burnout, and deliver a 10x better client experience,” he added. “AI shouldn’t replace accountants; it should empower them. Abacor keeps accountants in control while removing the busywork. The result: more clarity and more time for what truly matters.
“The future of accounting is here,” Lam concluded. “We’re excited to be shaping it.”
