Kelly Mann, CPA – 2023 Most Powerful Women in Accounting

I believe that policies and expectations around time off, productivity, and when/where/how we work will become more inclusive to allow women to show their true potential. 

What advice would you give to women college students about preparing for a career in the accounting profession? 

You have to ask for what you want.  Our industry has traditionally been male dominated and still is today.  I believe men can be our biggest allies, but we need to help them understand what we need, and want, to succeed. 

How would you advise accounting firms on how they can better attract, retain, and advance more women? 

Our industry needs to start valuing productivity and results over time.  Women find a way to get things done, even where there isn’t enough time in the day.  So, developing incentives to reward efficiency and productivity are more important than rewarding billable hours. 

What is your favorite professional mobile app, and why? 

LinkedIn – I can share my story with my network and make new friends easily! 

What do you like to do when you have time away from work? 

My time outside of work is dominated by my children’s schedules!  But on the rare occasion I do get time to myself, I usually get lost in a bingeworthy tv series or a book. 

What are your favorite podcasts? 

I actually don’t listen to podcasts!  I much prefer a book.
