CPAacademy.org, a provider of free online continuing education for accounting professionals—with over 400,000 members and more than 17,300 courses—celebrated its first 10 years in business this month. Founded in 2012 in a converted garage, CPAacademy.org created an alternative approach to the standard CPE model by providing high-quality online education at no cost to CPAs, EAs, and other accounting professionals.

“CPAacademy.org’s innovative approach filled a tremendous need for quality education in the accounting profession,” said Sidney Kess, nationally renowned tax expert, lecturer, and AICPA Gold Medal Award recipient. “With its new model, CPAacademy.org singlehandedly brought down the cost of continuing education across the profession.”

Notable Growth

Over the past 10 years, CPAacademy.org has been a platform for over 1,500 educators, resulting in more than 6.1 million CPE certificates for accountants.

“My dream from the beginning was to create an online education company for accountants that offered all kinds of high-quality free education,” said CPAacademy.org Founder and President Scott Zarret. “And I’ve never let go of that dream. In a world that needs so much healing, we believe that education is the only path forward.”

Recognition

As the 2021 CPA Practice Advisor Readers’ Choice Award Winner for Favorite CPE Provider, CPAacademy.org has made an impact on how accounting professionals and educators connect.

“CPAacademy.org provides unbelievable CPE to accountants across the country,” said Ed Slott, best-selling author, television personality, and a CPAacademy.org presenter on retirement saving strategies. “They have the best speakers in every area.”

“CPAacademy.org is incredibly reliable and invaluable to the accounting industry,” said Ron Vandergrift, a Maryland-based CPA who has been earning CPE through CPAacademy.org since 2012. “If you haven’t checked out CPAacademy.org, check them out,” urged Vandergrift.

Zarret emphasizes that he owes much of his company’s success to others. He is quick to recognize a growing membership that is accepting of different ideas, such as addressing mental health in the accounting profession, as well as the top experts that choose to present timely and diverse learning content on the CPAacademy.org platform. “I surrounded myself with incredible people that allowed me to turn my dream into a reality,” said Zarret.
