Cloud accounting software company Xero has added payroll for employers and employees in the state of Pennsylvania.

The payroll system, which is fully integrated with Xero’s cloud accounting platform, is now available to small businesses in 22 states including California, Texas, Georgia, New York and Florida. Already covering 70% of the American small business market, which totals 28 million entities across the country, Xero aims to ship payroll for all 50 states in the next 12 months.

By building a seamless online accounting platform, that incorporates payroll, data flows uninterrupted between the two functions meaning books and business financials are kept up-to-date and the amount of data entry required is reduced.

“Accounting and payroll are two of the most important administration functions in my business. They also take up the most amount of my time. With all my data in one place, based in the cloud, I can reduce how long it takes to pay my employees and work in real-time with my accountant and bookkeeper,” Dan Scarberry, owner of Union Station Grill said.

“Being able to work together with my accountant in the cloud, on the same ledger, using a single source of data, also greatly improves communication between me and my advisor.”

Discussing the release, Xero Partner and Pennsylvanian advisor at Bookkeeping N Beyond, Irene Mouchlizis, said having tailored payroll software in the state of Pennsylvania will provide accountants in the region a more efficient way to manage payroll and accounting for their small business clients.

“Accounting and payroll are two of the most important financial tools for any small business owner. Having them directly integrated together, on one platform, greatly simplifies the busy life of a small business owner,” Mouchlizis said.

“Small business owners are always searching for ways to cut down manual processes and this solution does just that. It allows them to get on with the business of running their business while leaving the numbers to me.”

All the payroll calculations are taken care of automatically so small business owners can pay their employees through direct deposit or with instant paychecks. And timesheets are included at no extra cost for all employees.

Detailed reports are also available to help you keep track of your company’s payroll information. Employees can even enter their own timesheets, and view time off and pay history through their own employee app.

“Over 190,000 small businesses in Pennsylvania employ at least one employee – and Xero is truly excited to provide an accounting and payroll solution that will not only make running their business much easier but also make them much more efficient,” Xero’s U.S. President, Russ Fujioka said.

The platform is also set up to remind small business owners when they have to file and pay payroll taxes so they don’t miss deadlines. Xero will soon support electronic filing and payments for your payroll tax.

With more than 600,000 subscribers now using Xero, we’ve been busy building out payroll functionality across the U.S.. Xero Payroll is now up and running in California, Texas and New York State, as well as 19 more states. Many also include e-filing capabilities.

“With the release of Pennsylvania, Xero is expanding its support for the American small business population and in the process is helping improve productivity across the nation. This release is also a great milestone as we are well on our way to delivering payroll support to all 50 states,” Fujioka said.
