The internet and the availability of free courses have dramatically changed how users around the world are learning. This is readily apparent in the below infographic from OnlineCollegeCourses.net.
According to the organization, in 1999, the University of Tübingen in German became the first college to offer Open Courseware (OCW), aka, free college course materials online. In 2002, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) started its Open Courseware website.
By 2013, more than 250 colleges and universities around the world offer more than 9,000 free courses online.
