Career Highlights
In the past year I returned to working in a firm. It was one of the most difficult decisions as I truly loved my previous job in a professional organization, but I also needed new challenges and perspectives. I’m happy to be in a firm to experience the profession from the prospective of previous members I worked with for years.

Additionally, in the spirit of fully embracing discomfort and pushing boundaries, I went back to school for my master’s in accounting. Going back for my master’s now allows me to actively get back into the classroom and obtain a viewpoint about the future of the profession I’ve been missing for years.

I am proud to be a part of this profession and feel these decisions help to better immerse myself in key areas that will make me an even better professional advocate in the future.

What are you doing to make a difference in the profession, your community, the world?
There are so many meaningful causes to me. I’ve taken a step back from some of the leadership roles I previously held while going to school and working full time, but I appreciate the times I’m able to support some of my favorite causes: a local dog rescue, autism organizations, the NC Association of CPAs, and mental health initiatives. Being a volunteer instead of holding leadership roles helps me to refocus on the causes and not the logistics. While I’m excited to get through school and step up my volunteerism, I’ve had a great opportunity to gain new viewpoints.

Current Professional Reading / Listening
Most of my reading or listening outside of work these days includes textbooks and lectures, but I do enjoy the Grammar Girl podcast for some quick tips and reminders about writing – and some fun history about grammar. Clear communication is always an important skill.
