Diana Stoltzfus, CPA – 2023 Most Powerful Women in Accounting

The profession needs to attract more talent and women play a critical role in driving the profession forward.  I believe the profession needs to do a better job articulating the many different career paths that the accounting profession has to offer.

What advice would you give to women college students about preparing for a career in the accounting profession?

I would encourage women college students to explore the variety of career paths that accounting has to offer, taking into consideration their passions and interests to help drive the type of career to pursue.  I would also encourage women to take chances and seek out new opportunities. Throughout my career, I have learned and grown the most when I have pushed myself to take a risk and do something new.

How would you advise accounting firms on how they can better attract, retain, and advance more women?

The profession has so much to offer and accounting firms can do a better job on sharing the variety of opportunities that are available. Accounting firms should talk about the growth and development opportunities, career progression, flexibility, and the ability to drive your own career.

What is your favorite professional mobile app, and why?

I like LinkedIn.  It helps me stay connected to my professional network and share information and opportunities with others.

What do you like to do when you have time away from work?

I love spending time with my husband and three daughters.  I also enjoy cooking and hiking, both help me to relax.

What are your favorite podcasts?

I enjoy listening to the Daily by the NYT and Revisionist History by Malcolm Gladwell.
