How do you envision the accounting profession evolving in the foreseeable future for women?

As more women rise to leadership positions, there will be more support for women throughout the profession. Representation matters. Women in leadership are role models whose presence encourages others to follow a similar path or to blaze their own trail. This also creates more diversity of thought and this leads to increased creativity and innovation that benefits everyone.

What advice would you give to women college students about preparing for a career in the accounting profession?

It is an exciting time in the profession! Your talents, skills and perspective are needed to help shape the future. As you are preparing for your career, consider other women whom you can mentor and share your passion for accounting. This is a great way to give back while also helping to build a pipeline of talent to grow the profession.

How would you advise accounting firms on how they can better attract, retain, and advance more women?

Focusing on inclusion and belonging is imperative for attracting, retaining and advancing more women in accounting firms. It is not enough to create a diverse workplace. Accounting firms must ensure that they are cultivating an inclusive environment where women and other underrepresented groups feel that their unique differences are valued and appreciated. This will create a desire to not only begin a career in the profession, but to also stay, contribute and excel.

What is your favorite professional mobile app, and why?

LinkedIn Learning is my favorite professional mobile app. I enjoy the ability to learn on the go and to have access to a library of content at my fingertips.

What do you like to do when you have time away from work?

I love to travel and explore new places with my husband and our three children. We enjoy being immersed in different cultures, learning from others and creating lasting memories.

What are your favorite podcasts?

My favorite podcast is The Boomer Briefing where you learn how to solve a critical business issue in 20 minutes or less. The topics focus on leadership, talent, technology, process and growth within the accounting profession.
