The Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MassCPAs), the state professional association representing over 11,000 members, announced that it has partnered with 34 other state CPA societies and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) for the first national Accounting Opportunities Week, which will be held November 7 – 11. CPAs across the nation will visit high school classrooms to share their story about where they’ve been, where they are and where they plan to go in their CPA journey.

MassCPAs has assembled 11 CPA volunteers to visiting with high school student virtually and in-person to raise awareness of accounting career opportunities. The presentations, outreach and support materials to students and teachers will work to raise awareness of the accounting profession and explain the exciting and challenging roles that CPAs play in the business world.

“Growing and diversifying the CPA pipeline is a priority across the profession,” says Amy Pitter, MassCPAs president and CEO. “The Society puts a strong emphasis on raising awareness of the unique role of CPAs and we are thrilled to work with the AICPA and several other states to inspire the next generation of accountants and make them aware of all the various career paths in the profession.”

To kick off Accounting Opportunities Week, MassCPAs hosted two “Is Accounting for Me?” High School Conferences in partnership with Bentley University on Friday, November 4, and Bridgewater State University on Tuesday, November 15, for high school students to learn about the accounting profession and studying business at the college level. They spent the day enjoying interactive activities panel discussions with accounting professionals and college students from Deloitte, Grant Thornton LLP, Foxx Life Sciences, MassHousing, Merrimack College and PwC.
