DZH Phillips Adds Partner
DZH Phillips LLP recently announced that Karisa L. Chin, CPA has joined the firm’s San Francisco and Burlingame offices. Chin, who was a founding partner at her previous firm, has more than 30 years of experience, providing international and domestic tax compliance and planning for corporations, individuals, partnerships, trusts and not-for profits. She has served in a variety of industries, including technology and biotechnology, manufacturing, engineering and privately-held business consulting firms. Chin received her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and marketing from the University of California, Berkeley and her Master’s degree in taxation from Golden Gate University.

Mueller Prost CPAs + Business Advisors CPA Graduates from AICPA Leadership Academy
Mueller Prost CPAs + Business Advisors recently announced Tim O’Neill, CPA graduated from the 2016 AICPA Leadership Academy, an intensive four-day program. During the program, O’Neill discussed important issues in the profession and participated in leadership development sessions with influential leaders in the profession, including AICPA Chair (2015-2016) Tim Christen, CPA, CGMA, Barry Melancon, CPA, CGMA, the Institute’s president and CEO, and Mark Koziel, AICPA executive vice president, firm services.

American Accounting Association Honors Washburn Professor
The American Accounting Association Midwest Region recently honored Washburn University Assistant Professor of Accounting Pamela Schmidt with the Best Education Paper Award. Schmidt received the award for her educational business case paper “Casey’s Collections: A Risk Assessment Case,” co-authored with Kimberly Swanson Church, Assistant Professor of Accounting at University of Missouri-Kansas City. The Best Education Paper is a national award sponsored by the AAA Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Section. Schmidt’s paper presents case-based learning as a solution for the need for student engagement and real-world experiences, which would provide auditing and accounting information system students with a realistic risk assessment business project that is grounded in the industry’s current standards for risk assessment and business continuity planning.
