On Wednesday, May 8, 2013, the new I-9 Employment form went into effect.

All employers are required to use this version to prove the eligibility of new workers.
Employers can can face fines between $110 to $1,100 for not complying with employment verification requirements, according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Additional fines and criminal penalties can be applied if there is intentional fraud or a business intentionally hires an unauthorized worker.
