What’s round on both ends and teaches financial basics to kids? Ohio CPAs.
This Friday (Nov. 16, 2012), members of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants will go to elementary schools across Ohio to help students understand how to use and manage money successfully through the FETCH! program.
FETCH!, which stands for Financial Education Teaches Children Healthy Habits, was created and implemented by The Ohio CPA Foundation in 2010 to provide a platform for CPAs to share their financial knowledge and expertise to teach students basic financial literacy concepts like budgeting, saving and spending.
To date, 2,300 volunteers have presented FETCH! to nearly 20,000 students in over 780 classrooms.
FETCH! teaches children about budgeting, saving and spending through a fun and interactive board game. Students form competitive teams for an adventure through a dog park filled with financial risks and rewards.
Team members must work together to purchase items for their pooch and save as much money as possible. Targeted to 5th and 6th grades, FETCH! requires students to make financial decisions, use their math skills, budget for unexpected expenses and plan ahead to avoid fines imposed by the Dog Catcher.
Through teamwork, strategy and competition, FETCH! teaches children important financial concepts that are the foundation of a healthy financial future.
