Accounting, tax and advisory services firm WeiserMazars LLP has announced that Kenneth M. Fischer has been named as the new Partner-in-Charge of the Health Care Group, effective May 1, 2013.

Fischer has more than 35 years of health care industry experience supporting academic medical centers, integrated delivery systems, community hospitals, and ambulatory care facilities. He has served as a consultant and business advisor in a wide range of subjects from financial and revenue cycle management to information technology and strategic planning.

Prior to joining WeiserMazars, Ken was CEO of boutique consulting firm Smart Solutions for Health Care, which was acquired by the firm on January 1, 2012. He began his professional career with KPMG, where he served as Partner-in-Charge of the firm’s Northeast/New York Healthcare Practice for 12 years.

He was the Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ for 14 years and Chair of its Finance and Audit Committees. He is a member of the Metropolitan New York Chapter of Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and former Chairman of the NY State Society of CPA’s Health Care Committee.

“Ken’s significant experience and reputation in the field makes him an excellent choice to lead our Health Care Group and demonstrates our commitment to this rapidly evolving sector,” said WeiserMazars’ Managing Partner, Douglas A. Phillips. “The health care industry is undergoing a significant transition. Under Ken’s guidance, WeiserMazars is well positioned to address business challenges faced by providers. We are grateful to Lawrence P. Cafasso, former Partner-in-Charge of the Health Care Group, who is stepping down after leading the group for 7 years and put the Group on such a strong footing.”

WeiserMazars’ Health Care Group has significantly expanded over the past year through the acquisition of specialized boutique firms, such as Smart Solutions and Creative Health Concepts, as well as the addition of partner-level industry experts. The group has experienced substantial growth in the past year and now offers a full suite of professional business services including Financial Advisory, Managed Care Consulting, IT Consulting and Revenue Cycle Management. It currently provides C-suite consultation to the majority of hospitals and medical facilities in the New York metro area.
